Spring just wouldn’t be the same without baby chicks!

Neither would my little one’s Easter basket.

After such an incredible response from The Pocket Pal Bunny from all of you I thought it would be fun to make a friend (possibly 2 ;)) for the little bunnies. I couldn’t be more excited with how these little baby chicks turned out.

A few weeks ago I began planning for Easter. I quickly realized that my 1 year old really wouldn’t get anything out of hunting for chocolate eggs (plus her older siblings would find most of them anyway ;). I decided to make little bunnies for her to find (see Pocket Pal Bunnies post). I found the most amazing yarn at my local Michaels (Bernat Baby Crushed Velvet) and the most adorable eyes from @Suncatcher Craft Eye (I used a combination of 12mm black eyes and 12mm galaxy eyes for the baby chicks and bunnies).

This beginner friendly pattern can be made with many different yarns, by adjusting the hook size accordingly to avoid having holes in your Amigurumi (more about this in a future post ;)). The baby chick’s are worked from the bottom up. The pattern gives the option to crochet in their little feet, wings and hair, leaving only the little beak to sew on. These guys are perfect for a very quick last minute gift or addition to your Easter basket.

How to assemble your Pocket Pal Baby Chick Crochet Pattern

Sewing Placement – I highly recommend pinning ALL parts in place BEFORE sewing to make sure everything sits properly and is to your liking 🙂

Note:  Disregard sewing the feet and wings if you’ve already crocheted them on.
Feet:
Place the Feet at approx Round 5 of the body about 4 sts apart.Sew in place.  When sewing the feet in place I sewed the top of the last FULL ROUND DOWN instead of just the sts from crocheting the round together.
Wings:
Place the wings at approx Round 17 of the body, approx 4 sts apart.  Sew in place. When sewing the wing in place I sewed the top of the last FULL ROUND DOWN instead of just the sts from crocheting the round together.
Beak:
Centre the beak below the eyes placing it between Rounds 21 and 23 of the head.  Stuff lightly and sew down along Round 3 of the beak.
